Affiliate marketing has been around for a very long time. There was even a time when it was one of the very reasons that got people into internet marketing in the first place. It got so big to the point that it was even synonymous with internet marketing. Affiliate marketing is not dying, on the contrary, it is as strong as ever.
There are thousands and thousands of affiliate marketing products to choose from out there, but should you try to market them all and see which one sells the best? Well, it doesn’t really work that way, you actually have to believe in what you are selling, otherwise, how are the customers going to believe you?
There is about as much information out there on affiliate marketing as they are products ready to be promoted themselves through affiliate marketing. So if you every wanted to try your hand at affiliate marketing, might as well learn how to do it right from the start.
Here are some ways which can help you do so:
Recurrent
As mentioned earlier, there are many kinds of products promotable through affiliate marketing out there. Some come in the form of digital products such as software, e-books and some are even tangible items.
But most of those products are only good for 1 sale per person. Meaning once someone buys it, you get paid once, and that’s the end of it. Products that you should really be looking out for are ones which can offer you a recurring income, or ones which requires memberships, or some form of subscription.
They may not offer you a big lump-sum of money as commission compared to one time sale products, but multiply that by a year and you are looking at a long-term money making machine.
And of course, the more people you can refer, you will effectively multiple your income based on how many people signed up for these kinds of services or sites. For every month they pay for their subscription or membership, means money coming into your account.
Quality
Lousy non-quality products will always be …lousy. It’s easy to spot a lousy product from a mile away. One way is to take a look at their affiliate program. Chances are that their affiliate programs are of equal value, meaning low-quality.
You should not waste your time with these kinds of products, and promoting it will only do you more harm than good. People will start looking at you as someone who sells lousy quality stuff and soon you will be infamous enough, and this is definitely bad for your business down the line.
Even though if the product has a high commission rate, don’t let the big money figure blind you from seeing it for what is real is. What you get is something lousy.
Think about who you are promoting it to, think about your customers or potential prospects, find products that are genuinely helpful or valuable to those people and you will earn tons more in the long run while gaining a favorable reputation in the process.
One At A Time
Just because there are tons of products to promote out there doesn’t mean you should grab them all and promote as much as you can in one single attempt. This is where most internet marketers make a mistake, and then complain that affiliate marketing isn’t profitable. This is because they did not focus on one at a time.
You should only promote one product at a time. And you should also have a web or landing page, e-mail and articles specifically for each product that you are promoting. If you start promoting too many things at once to your customers, then it will be overwhelming to them and thus will only deter them.
You need adequate time for promoting a product and if you don’t give it enough time for a product popularity to really grow how can you expect to reap its maximum profit potential?
Focus on a single product for at least a couple of weeks before moving on.
Not Just Your Website
Nobody said you only have to promote your products purely on your website alone. It’s time to get on every corner of the World Wide Web and embark on a promotional campaign.
Social media sites, social network sites, forums, press releases, e-mail, they are all at your disposal. But do promote effectively and efficiently. Don’t go on spamming on these sites. Do it the right way and follow proper etiquette.
You don’t have to purely rely on the search engine rankings at this point, just go to where you think your target market is, and promote it there.
Either you can leave your affiliate link there, or better yet leave a link pointing back to your landing page on your main site, and with enough backlinks placed in diverse and high quality sites, your rankings for that product keyword should see a rise and therefore it’s a win-win situation.
Multiple Streams
Internet marketing shouldn’t mean it just about affiliate marketing alone. You should have multiple sources of income so that you won’t be largely affected if you lose anyone. On the World Wide Web, anything could happen.
You can also generate income from AdSense, email marketing, social media marketing or even marketing your VERY OWN products.
Many people make the mistake of getting into affiliate marketing thinking it is some form of a get rich scheme. Even if you see advertisements of people saying it is so, never believe it to be true. You will not be a millionaire overnight nor is it a shortcut to wealth. It takes time, effort and persistence to be successful with affiliate marketing, or with any business for that matter, be it online or offline
