Can You REALLY Make Money With a Membership Site?

How Your Content Delivery Affects Your Profits

When most marketers decide to start selling information products online, they usually start selling ebooks. But did you know that you can offer the same information in a slightly different format and actually make more money? It’s true. And that’s exactly what you’ll learn how to do in this article.

Let’s consider for a moment the different ways you can deliver content. We’ll focus mainly on the online methods, although you certainly can deliver physical products such as books and home study courses and live events such as teleseminars.

Here are the main downloadable options:

* Ebooks and reports. Almost everyone who sells information online offers ebooks and reports. Usually, these are low-priced ($50 or less) and sometimes free. It’s a great choice for entry-level products to pull people into your sales funnel.

* Audios. Audio interviews and audio ebooks have a slightly higher perceived value. That means you can take the same information as an ebook, turn it into an audio and charge a higher price.

* Videos. Videos are the next step up, meaning you can take the same information as offered in an ebook or audio, turn it into a video and people will consider it to be worth more. Naturally, that means you can charge more.

* Membership sites. The perceived value of a membership site largely depends on what you’re offering in the site. For example, an ebook-only membership site is going to have a lower perceived value than a site that includes videos.

Now, you may want to incorporate all four of these products into your sales funnel. For example: You can use your ebooks as entry-level products, your audios and videos as intermediate products, and your membership sites for your expert-level products.

But here’s another idea…

Just skip all the other products and get people directly into your membership site. Indeed, you can use your membership site as a sales funnel. That means you can offer free “bronze” memberships and then upgrade your free members to paid memberships.

If you’ve spent any time studying membership site marketing before, then you already know just how profitable it can be. In fact, I bet you’ve even crunched the numbers before. For example, if you get just 1000 members paying you $20 a month, you pull in a cool $20,000 every month.

Well – close but not quite.

You’d pull in $20,000 every month only IF you can keep all 100 of those members… or if you can rapidly replace the members who are constantly quitting the site. Most marketers can’t do that. And so their sites eventually just make a couple hundred dollars a month.

You see, that’s because most membership site marketers don’t consider the churn rate (that’s the number of people who’ll drop out of your site every month). Truth is, most customers who are paying a monthly fee in a recurring membership site cancel after just three, four or maybe five months (if you’re lucky). And so you need to work hard all year around just to keep your membership numbers up.

Now before you toss out the idea of running a membership site, let me tell you that there is an easier and FAR more profitable way to do it. And best of all, it’s easy to get members because you don’t even have to sell anything on the front end.

Sound a little too good to be true? It’s not. And if you act right now, you can get all the details for free. Go to MembershipMarketers.com now to find out how you can triple YOUR membership site profits!

How to Profit From Membership Sites

Membership sites are an excellent way to generate a great residual income, which can last for the rest of your life. These are web sites that allow people to sign up as members (usually for a monthly/yearly fee) and have access to content that non-members do not have access to. This concept can work for many different circumstances: there are sites that have massive databases of material that charge a monthly membership fee to gain access to, there are dating sites that cost money every month to remain a member of, and there are also membership sites that offer movies, music, entertainment, gaming, etc. It all depends on how valuable the content is. If there is a demand for that service, database, etc. then there will certainly be paying members.

Membership sites can be created pretty easily with the help of a simple membership site software and/or web development teams. You can literally hire a virtual staff to do the whole thing for you at a very affordable price. Or, if you know a bit about web development, you can purchase scripts for membership sites for cheap and install it onto your web site yourself. The profit that can be generated from membership sites is enormous so it is worth going through the development stage and outsourcing when you need to.

Even if you just offer a newsletter or monthly report to your members for $5 bucks a month… that would be $5,000 a month income for every one thousand members you have. You can gain a thousand members in a year or less, but even if it took you 5 years it would still be worth it! $5,000 a month for the rest of your life (or for as long as you continue to write the newsletter) would be life changing for a lot of people. And, all you would have to do is write ONE newsletter every month — which would earn you $5,000 in this scenario. This would give you more time and money to work on other projects and you can build an online empire of membership sites. Whether you think big or small, membership sites are a surefire way to profit.

Membership Sites are Ultimate Recurring Profit Machines

Having a membership site or a continuity program website is perhaps one of the most profitable businesses you can run. Basically, people sign up to be members of the site in order to access information, videos, instructional material, PLR content, etc. for a monthly fee. This type of site is so profitable because you can produce the same amount of content that you would normally — no matter how many members you have.

Let me explain what I mean by that. If you have a site that offers a paid monthly membership (for let’s say a dating website or a PLR content website), your website functions the same as it would with 100 members as it would with 10,000, only you’d make a lot more money with 10,000 members!

There is also a difference in the amount of bandwidth you will need for your site if you have a lot of members. The amount of space you will need on your hosting plan will be the only thing you may have to upgrade.

Let’s say you offer a monthly report or newsletter and people pay $7 a month to be a member. Even if you have a million members, all you have to do is write that ONE newsletter every month and you would be earning $7 million dollars a month! That is of course if you had a million members. A thousand members or even ten thousand members is a very achievable goal especially on the internet, with a global reach.

The overhead is the upkeep and maintenance of your website as well as continuously providing quality content or services. Membership sites are profit machines and many of the big league internet marketers are going in that direction with their businesses. There are membership sites popping up everywhere, wonder why? Because they are extremely profitable and can even be monetized if you offer a FREE membership. Look at sites like Myspace and Facebook, they are multi-billion dollar companies and they both are membership sites that offer FREE memberships. The money they make is in the advertising revenue.

Remember what I am saying here… membership sites are ultimate profit machines.

The point of membership sites are to provide a specific service or type of content to people who agree to sign up and pay a monthly fee to access the members area. There are also membership sites that offer FREE access, but still make tons of money from advertising revenue, due to the immense amount of traffic they get to their website. An example of one such membership site would be Myspace.com. It is a multibillion dollar company and it offers a 100% free membership to anyone that wants a Myspace page.

They make their money from advertising revenue, by placing ads on their site that pay money every time someone clicks on the ad. Anybody can add these types of ads to their website, membership site or blog without having to be a super popular site. These ads are from Google, yes the Internet giant. It’s program is called AdSense and Yahoo and MSN also have their own similar programs.

Other examples of membership sites that are paid for are ones like Match.com; where you pay a monthly fee to have access to their database of single people who are looking for a mate in your town or abroad. There are many shapes, forms and sizes of membership sites and continuity programs out there like ones that charge a recurring fee for a tangible product like a CD home-study course that gets shipped once a month and the money is automatically deducted from a credit or debit card.

Membership sites are extremely profitable business models with very low overhead. They are easy to start up and you can have as many members as you can recruit over time, and the income is residual. Even with a $5 a month membership, you can make thousands of dollars a month if you have only 400 members, which would be $2,000 a month automatically, for producing the same amount of content you would if you had just 10 members. That means when a few years go by and the site has 10,000 members… it would be a $50,000 per month income generating business. Not bad, eh?

The easiest way to have your membership site is to invest in turnkey systems like Membership Wholesaler.
